All in all, Peter Madsen was not the genius he thought himself to be. The autopsy established that the head had not suffe- red any injury that might possibly be caused by a big 70-kilo hatch cover, while traces of 15 stab woun- ds were found on the body, some of which were in- flicted while the victim was still alive and others just after death.Fourteen of these were in the groin. Peter Madsen's situation was worsening hour by hour. On Madsen's computer the police found seve- ral amateur videos of tortures on women, including one in which a woman was killed and beheaded. The autopsy also ascertained that Kim had been tor- tured, tied, slapped, and hit with an iron before dying. The inventor's psychopathic profile was outlined. The trial of Peter Madsen started at the beginning of March 2018. But despite all the evidence, his at- torney Betina Hald Engmark argued that her client is not guilty of those atrocities, while she admitted that Madsen did actually dismember Wall's body in an attempt to hide the corpse, because he panicked after she had accidentally died inside the submarine, while he was sailing the craft standing outside, on the turret. Later, during the trial that ended in April 2018, Madsen changed his story and stated that the young woman had died after inhaling carbon mono- xide fumes inside the submarine, while he was sai- ling the craft outside. Jakob Buch-Jepsen, the Copenhagen public prose- cutor, was convinced of Madsen's guilt right from the start of the investigation, and eventually managed to obtain justice. Peter Madsen was found guilty of mur- der and of another long array of crimes, all accom- panied by several aggravating circumstances, inclu- ding cruelty; the sentence was life imprisonment. A few weeks ago the author and director of TV shows Tobias Lindholm announced that he has started wri- ting the story of Kim Wall to make it a six-part TV series to be named The Investigation .
