hen many were thinking that the Oceanis Yacht
range, introduced in 2015 with the Oceanis 62,
was over the hill because in four years Beneteau had
no longer followed up on that first model, the builder
announces that the new Oceanis Yacht 54 is going
to be launched by next summer and, as widely an
-
ticipated by SVN Global (in the Italian version, SVN
Solovelanet), will be based on the hull of the First 53.
A few months ago Beneteau ran a contest to choose
their new design team among several professionals
in the world, and the winners were Roberto Biscon
-
tini and Lorenzo Argento, the two Italian designers
who had created the project of the First Yacht 53, the
first model of the revamped First range.
Contrary to those who had bet against the success
of the First because of its high price, this model sold
very well and Beneteau asked Biscontini and Argen

to to take it as a starting point for the design of the
new Oceanis Yacht 54 which will be very remarka-
bly different from the Oceanis 62, a model that is not
aesthetically excellent.As a matter of fact, Beneteau
aims at using the moulds of the First hull to make the
Oceanis Yacht 54.
SVN Global asked Roberto Biscontini if it feels so

mewhat odd to design a cruiser on the hull of a Per-
formance. Here is his answer.
"As you have written several times, the First 53 - Bi-
scontini says - is not the old First racing boat where
water lines were entirely focused on performance.
Our 53 is a performance boat suitable for cruising:
a fun and fast boat, whose primary goal however is
not racing.Her volumes, especially aft, are not that
different from those of a cruiser. I think we have done
a good job. The new 54 will be a big and spacious
boat, and very pleasant to sail too".
