27 SVN Solovelanet Global Boats news News T he Catana group, owner of the shipyard of the same name and of the Balì shipyard, has announced that they have acquired the entire property of the Tunisian shipyard Magic Yachts, formerly owned by Wally Yachts and located in the Tunisian free zone of Bizerte. The Catana Group, that in the latest five years, or since Balì was founded, has been growing by 50% per year, has decided to acquire Magic Yachts after cancelling the purchase of other depots in Canet-en-Roussillon, in France, where they already have a factory, due to red tape and especially because of the high taxation. Anche la regata che si sarebbe dovuta tenere nel 2022 sarà spostata di un anno in seguito allo slittamento della fine della regata di questa stagione. The Catana group moves part of its production to Tunisia Swan has doubts about return to normality and can- cels the July event N autor executives met yesterday in a video conference and agreed to cancel the annual Swan European Regat- ta, the yacht race that gathers all Swan owners in Europe, one of the great Nautor events that was due to take place from 7th to 13th July 2020. The cancellation because of the Coronavirus spread shows that Nautor managers are not convinced at all that the situa - tion will regain a semblance of normalcy by July, and this is a cause of great concern in the industry. If travelling, even with all necessary precautions, will not yet be possible in July, the charter industry is going to suffer a devastating worldwide crisis and will have no chance to save the season, even partially. G raham Dalton, 66 years old, athletic and well-trai- ned physique, the older brother of Grand Dalton, the patron of Team New Zealand that won the 35th America's Cup and will have to defend it in the 36th edition, is going to take part in the next Golden Globe Race. Graham is a solo sailor with several tours of the world behind him, some of which successful, some less so, and is now working to take part in the next edition of the Golden Globe Race, the non-stop, single-handed, round-the-world yacht race for long-keeled boats built before 1988, which will depart from Les Sables- d'Olonne on 4th September 2022. Of the 35 places available for the race (5 more than the first edition), 25 have already been taken by as many skippers, including Graham Dalton. To achieve this task, Dalton purchased the Matmut, a Rustler 36 formerly owned by the French legend Jean- Luc Van Den Heede, the winner of the first edition of the regatta. Now he is fixing this boat with extreme care and, as he announced recently, he plans to reach France in May, Coronavirus permitting, to sail with her the 2000 miles needed to qualify. When a journalist asked him why he is embarking in such dangerous sailing tasks he replied, "the brave don't live forever, but the cautious never live". As mentioned, Dalton is not new to these adventures. He already took part in the 2002-2003 edition of the Velux 5 Oceans Race, the single-handed round-the- world race formerly known as Around Alone, where at Cape Horn a boom failure caused him to lose the mast and retreat from the competition. He tried again in the 2006-2007 edition, that he wanted to comple - te despite the several problems he had to face throughout, and reached the finish line after disqualification with a delay of six weeks on Bernard Stamm, the winner of that edition.
