31 SVN Solovelanet Global The SLC stands for Sailing License and Credentials. It was designed to combine proper assessment standards with proven competence and sufficient experience so that no only does it meet the legal re - quirements for a license but also meets the yacht charter and insurance company requirements for an acceptable sailing resume. In Reality, a Resume AND a Sailing License is Re - quired Unfortunately, there are still some associations who will issue legacy licenses that do not meet the inter- national standards set by the UN and the ICC. Thus, yacht charter companies still require an acceptable license as well as an acceptable sailing resume. But what does a sailing resume look like? Fortuna - tely, NauticEd has created software that is free for anyone to use. All you do is enter your past sailing experiences, as semi-accurately as you can, into their free online electronic logbook. You also list any past certifications or licenses and upload the ima - ges of such. The software then prepares and for- mats automatically a yacht charter ready summary of everything – a sailing resume. If you are lacking a license for chartering where one is required, NauticEd has made that process simple. To gain the NauticEd SLC which serves as an accep - table license for all countries and yacht charter com- panies, you do online courses, log at least 50 days of sailing experience in your online logbook (25 as ma- ster of the vessel), and pass a 1 day assessment of your sailing skills with a registered NauticEd Asses- sor. If you are not near a NauticEd School then you can get an ICC at an RYA school. RYA Schools are located all over the world (but only very few in North America. Miami – Toronto – Halifax). To gain an ICC you must do theory coursework covering such to - pics as navigation, tides, rules, knots, seamanship, lights, sounds and buoys as more and then take a 1 day assessment of your skills. NauticEd offers the- se theory courses online. You can take the Bareboat Charter Master Bundle of courses or even the RYA Day Skipper Course. What if I am lacking in overall experience? There is no shame in lacking experience. Everyone started with zero experience. What we recommend is to hire a professional captain. A captain can give you a better sailing vacation experience because of their local knowledge. A captain is also always willing to give you the helm whenever you want and is always willing to teach. A professional captain is exactly that, a professional who is there to make sure you enjoy your vacation and come back again and for you to tell your friends what an amazing experience you had.
