a bit too small to push the almost 11 tons of this
boat. The difference in favour of the Sun Odyssey
is as much as 22 square metres, 22% of the sail
area of the Oceanis 46.1, while the difference in
weight is just 300 kilos.
Beneteau
For Bénéteau, Pascal Conq has created something
innovative too, although not as cutting-edge as
what Briand has done. Along the lines of what has
been seen in many racing hulls in recent years,
where the chine of the hull has moved forward, Pa-
scal Conq has moved the hull chine of the Oceanis,
making it start just before the centre of the boat
to so that it extends up to the bow. In the central
part of the boat, the chine reaches its maximum
extension and becomes a real redan, i.e. a step.
The undoubted benefit is a significant increase in
the volume of the forward cabin and, above all, of
the dinette and the spaces on deck.A solution of
this kind has then been adopted by Umberto Felci
on the latest Dufour models, although in a less ap
-
parent way. However, the chine on the Bénéteau is
much sharper and the gain in space and internal
volume is more prominent.

naker, and in the centre, the two sundecks
which are normally located next to the com-
panionway, but can be moved anywhere on
the boat, which features many clear areas.
