The people and especially the rich and powerful
are eager to try out the wonders of the modern era.
Meucci had invented the telephone 40 years earlier,
then Marconi has freed people from isolation with
the telegraph and Irving Langmuir has enlighte

ned the world with his inert gas-filled incandescent
lamp. Motor cars had begun replacing horse-driven
carriages and back in their farm in Ohio the Wright
brothers are experimenting with flying machines.
