42 SVN Solovelanet Global Many things are missing that are typical of the single blade. This is the reason why, unless there are special reasons for installing a double-blade, such as on an ocean boat, I always prefer to mount a single rudder blade. SVN - But the stern of Dufour boats is very wide, and would seem ideal for a double rudder blade. U.F. - It is wide at the topsides, but narrower at the hull. I never liked wide flat sterns, because they make the boat hard to handle especially with rough seas. I prefer a hull that moves easily in the water. The classic single rudder blade is perfect for our hulls. For a second opinion we went to Roberto Bisconti - ni, a naval engineer who has designed many one-off and standard production boats, and is now getting a lot of attention from the media as the designer of the new First Yacht 53, introduced at the last Cannes boat show. Biscontini, together with Lorenzo Argento, is also the designer of the upcoming Oceanis 40 and The Dufour 520 designed by Umberto Felci. This boat is equipped with a single rudder blade Less maintenance Better boat control Better manoeuvrability when mooring Pros of single rudder blade according to Umberto Felci Subscribe to the newsletter and receive our articles, videos and digital magazine
