49 SVN Solovelanet Global A fairly small hole in the hull might be enough to make a boat sink in a few minutes. For this reason, fast hulls are particularly susceptible to high speed impacts and might sink in less than a minute! In this scenario we can understand the importance of a hydrostatic release hook, that allows the raft to automatically release and inflate when the boat sinks. Hydrostatic release unit 2 - When the boat sinks, the hydrostatic hook automatically cuts the rope that secures the liferaft to the deck. It activates at a depth between 1 and 4 meters. The painter line remains connected to the weak link and the raft has enough buoyancy to come up to the surface. 3 - As the boat sinks further, it drags the painter line downwards, thus activating the life - raft's inflation. 4 - The resistance of the infla- ted raft is high enough to break the weak link and release the painter line from the boat. If the boat sinks in shallow water, it may be necessary to release the raft manually by acting on the "pelican" hook. 1- It is therefore essential that this system is correctly installed, otherwise the liferaft will sink with the boat.
