he Lagoon 46 was introduced by the French
shipyard from which it takes its name in 2019.
The boat is inspired by, and is going to replace, the
Lagoon 450. For the yard, this boat is a real chan-
ge of pace in terms of catamaran design. The most
important innovation is the mast, which is remarka-
bly recessed, as in the Lagoon 50. The purpose of
this retraction is to allow the use of a self-tacking jib
which shifts the centre of effort to the centre of late-
ral resistance, thus making the boat much more ba-
lanced and stable. Because of the mast retraction,
the flybridge sundeck has been placed behind the
helm. This shift of position has made it possible to
have a larger sundeck.
More innovations can be found in the cockpit and
inside the boat. For example, when the table in the
cockpit is opened out, the bench can be moved on
a slider to provide extra seating. Also, the guest ca-
bins are larger than those of the Lagoon 450 and the
berths have been placed in the middle so that it is
now possible to sit sideways, and much easier to
get up and lie down. The heads are also larger, and
the dinette has a central opening window which con-
nects with the cockpit.
