D
uring the Cannes Yachting Festival, Dufour intro-
duced a project for the new Dufour 53 which will
replace the Dufour 520, a yacht which in turn was
based on the Dufour 500.
The Dufour 53 features some interesting tricks, such
as the opening in the billboard before it reaches the
end of the cockpit bench, in order to create space
in which to climb from the cockpit to the main deck
more easily. This solution has probably been adop-
ted as a response to the revolutionary side ramps
which provide access to the main deck of Jeanne-
au's new Sun Odyssey yachts.
The new model features large dinette windows and
the kitchen is concealed under the helmsman's
bench, which is one of the yard's most successful
ideas and has been copied by all other brands.
Another innovative feature is the island at the centre
of the stern, as in the Dufour 630. In addition to bre-
aking the aft space, which is really large in modern
boats because the maximum width of the beam rea-
ches almost as far as the stern, this provides very
comfortable seating for those who want to be closer
to the helm.
The boat is about 20 centimetres wider than the 520
and may be equipped with a forward crew cabin,
which was not available in the 520. There are four
layout options, ranging from 3 cabins and 3 heads to
the super charter option with 6 cabins and 3 heads.
As with the 520, the galley is located between the
fore cabin and the dinette.
The Dufour 530GL will be presented at the Dussel-
dorf boat show in January 2020.
On top, the Dufour 430 as seen from
the stern. In the centre, the three versions:
1 - Basic, 2 - Premium, 3 - Performance.
