The chine effect is especially noticeable in the
forward cabin of the owner's version, which is 10
centimetres wider than the competition: the size of
a proper room, with plenty of space to move around.
The maximum beam of the boat is not affected
by the chain effect and remains within the avera-
ge:4.50 metres on the Oceanis 46.1, 4.49 metres on
the Sun Odyssey 490. What the redan affects is the
volume by widening the lower part of the hull, that
area that usually shrank and forced the designers
to raise the furniture and make narrow cabins. The
walking area. Thanks to the redan, the bed can be
placed lower and enjoy greater width in the lower
part of the cabin, the more liveable one. In addition
to the chine, the Oceanis features an interesting
separation between guest areas and crew/working
areas. That makes the boat remarkably comfortable
for guests. This separation can be seen very clearly
in the cockpit where the deckhouse, as previously
mentioned, is not equipped with the two winches
for the halyard and mainsheet, which instead are
found on the deckhouse of the Sun Odyssey 490.
Being devoid of winches, the area next to the com
-
panionway can be used to accommodate two large
sundecks, that become two shaded lounging areas
On top, the forward cabin of the Sun
Odyssey 490, with the central bed offering
lateral space to get on more comfortably.
