The Grand Soleil 42LC, that we at Solovela tested in
front of Cala Galera at the end of October 2019, is a
comfortable cruiser boat, made to spend long days
swinging in a roadstead and designed for big dinners
in the cockpit and long baths. But once the stop in
the roadstead comes to an end and the chain returns
the anchor to its place, she is also capable of turning
into a performance yacht as good as many boats that
can boast this adjective but not that of "cruiser".
Roll-bar or no roll-bar
The roll-bar is certainly a distinctive feature of LC
boats, but in the early days of the range, it has not
always been appreciated by those looking for that
type of boats. The roll-bar met much opposition
especially in Italy, where a boat must first of all look
beautiful and stylish or else no one will be interested
in her, no matter her speed. For this reason, Pardo
has decided to offer two versions of each model in
the LC range, i. e. with or without the roll-bar.Or to
be more exact, the roll-bar has become an option to
be paid separately if requested. But what is the roll-
bar used for? Although your correspondent does not
appreciate this expensive accessory at all, it must be
admitted that it has a purpose. The roll-bar makes the
deckhouse free of the encumbrance of blocks and
even of the mainsheet track. If the roll-bar is fitted,
the mainsheet blocks are in fact placed in its centre.
