O
ur thanks go to Eurosail Yacht of Marina Pun-
ta Faro in Lignano, a Dufour test site in the
Adriatic coast.
Eurosail, which at the time of our visit had 5
out of 7 models available for testing and custo
-
mer visits, made its employees, the necessary
skippers and the supporting boat available to us
during the four days we spent testing the Dufour
390 and Dufour 430.
The deck
Starting from the bow, we immediately notice the
dolphin striker. While not being an integral part of the
hull, at present such an item is no longer an optional.
All models built by the yard are equipped with it, and
this will probably encourage owners to experiment
with different kind of sails that they had never tried
before, such as a code 0 or a gennaker.
Immediately aft of the dolphin striker we find the jib
furling drum: a standard one, that may be embed
-
ded under the deck if desired.Besides clearing the
deck space, this choice should increase the jib area
by a few metres, but the shipyard has chosen not to
supply a different headsail, so if you want to make
the most of this item you will need to have a custom
sail made.
The anchor locker is located aft of the jib furling
drum. It is a well thought out space. Inside, a very
big tank can accommodate about eighty metres of
chain without the risk of blocking the winch because
of chain build-up while releasing the cable.
At the end of the large bow triangle, the coachro
-
of boasts big glass surfaces that provide a great
amount of natural light below deck. Just aft of the
mast, we should notice the large window, which
extends through the whole coachroof transversely.
