The high wheelhouse allows for much more space and a 360° view that is not possible with low wheel - houses. On the other hand, the helmsman is seated high where the catamaran rolls more, and above all he cannot move as much as he would from the side wheelhouses. By shifting the wheelhouse like that, the shipyard shows their intention to aim at a more cruise-loving public, as is only right and proper. Catana is a big group that needs a big turnover, but you cannot obtain a big turnover by selling a few boats a year to skippers wishing to sail around the world. Another consequence of this firm stand is that some design concepts have been borrowed from Bali, another brand belonging to the group, whose models are designed by Oliver Poncin, the group owner. Bali owes its fortune to the very innovative concep - tion of the cockpit of their boats, which become much larger than usual, thanks to the possibility of completely opening the separating walls between the dinette and the cockpit itself. The cockpit-dinet - te created by the opening walls has proven very useful and appreciated by Bali customers, so it is now being implemented on the new Catana 50 too. However, it would be wrong to think that Catana intends to align this 50 to the cruising cats available on the market. The new 50 remains a sailing boat with a large sail area, with daggerboards to counte - ract leeway, with a hull design that is remarkably different from that of series production catamarans designed for coastal cruises. Catana is and remains a cat suitable for long voyages, although it has been noted that most of these boats belong to market segments where not everything on board is essential, so it is possible to make room and improve the comfort of these cats for those who live aboard for many months a year.
